Flower food is a special blend of nutrients, minerals and other ingredients that help your fresh cut flowers stay healthy and vibrant for longer.

Here at Everlyn & Austin Floristry, we know how important it is to keep your flowers fresh, That’s why we’ve put together this guide to help you make your own flower food at home.


2 tablespoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of bleach
1 teaspoon of white wine vinegar
1 liter of water


  1. Start by gathering your ingredients.
  2. In a large container, mix together the sugar, bleach and white wine vinegar.
  3. Fill the container with 1 liter of water and mix until all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  4. Your flower food is now ready to use! Using your homemade flower food is easy.
  5. Simply fill a vase with cold water and add the flower food. Place your cut flowers in the vase and allow them to soak for several hours. This will ensure the flowers stay fresh and vibrant for longer.

What are the reasons we use these ingredients:

  • The sugar provides the nutrients for the flowers
  • The Bleach and the White wine vinegar call bacteria that is on the stem, in the vase and in the water
